The depth of cruelty to which some individuals can sink often makes the rest of us ashamed to be part of the same species. It’s a stark reminder that humans, despite their intelligence and capacity for empathy, are not always morally righteous like animals. In nature, animals usually resort to violence only when threatened or in need of sustenance, unlike humans who may harm for pleasure or out of malice.
Tragically, Athena, a Dogue de Bordeaux, fell victim to such cruelty at the hands of her owner. Not only was she subjected to torture, but she was also buried alive and left to the care of her caretaker. However, Athena’s harrowing ordeal was reversed when a Good Samaritan, while walking his own dog, came across her buried in the ground. This act of kindness and quick thinking ended up saving her life.
Some people are capable of such heinous acts that it is shameful for the rest of us to be members of the same species. Humans are not nearly as good as animals. In the wild, they never kill or torture for fun; instead, they attack when they are scared or hungry.
Unfortunately, our heroine was possessed by a vile individual who not only enjoyed torturing her but also buried her alive and left her to perish. Dogue de France Athena (Dogue de Bordeaux). Recently, while walking his dog, a good Samaritan discovered her buried alive. Something sticking out of the ground caught his attention. Once he recognized it was a dog’s head, he knew he had to act quickly.
On August 4, Athena was discovered buried alive. All that was visible was her head and from the looks of it, she must have been able to free it herself as it was buried very shallow.
But because she was anchored to the ground, she couldn’t fully relax.
Athena was dehydrated and quite weak. She was also extremely composed after the rescue.
Her rescue dog also extended a helping paw. Goddess is her name. Athena and the Goddess really fit together.
Throughout the rescue, Goddess never stopped supporting the poor pup.
But the evidence painted a different picture. The dog appeared to have been abused for a considerable period of time and had osteoarthritis, making it difficult for her to escape.
The owner, who is 21 years old, was taken into custody Saturday afternoon and will face animal cruelty charges. The trial is scheduled to begin in May. A petition has been launched seeking the maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $33,000 fine.
In the face of such cruelty, it is heartening to witness the compassion and quick action of the good Samaritan who saved Athena. Their heroic efforts not only saved a life but also drew attention to the issue of animal cruelty. Athena’s story serves as a reminder of the resilience and spirit of animals even in the face of such unimaginable cruelty.
The bond between Athena and her savior’s dog, aptly named Goddess, highlights the power of companionship and support, even in the most trying of circumstances. Their unwavering solidarity during the rescue is a testament to the deep connection that can exist between humans and animals.
While Athena’s suffering is a stark reminder of the cruelty some animals endure, it is also a call to action for justice. Quickly catching the perpetrator and drawing legal consequences through the petition demonstrates society’s collective stance against animal cruelty. As Athena continues her journey to recovery, her story serves as a beacon of hope and resilience, inspiring others to stand up against cruelty and advocate for the welfare of all animals.
