An Amber Alert was issued on March 10, 2024, regarding Halo Branton, a young man from Schenectady, New York who went missing after 9:00 pm the previous evening.
The petite girl was said to be wearing a light pink long-sleeve top with a butterfly motif and white sweatpants with brown and beige flowers. She had a Minnie Mouse blanket with her.
The Amber Alert was canceled just minutes after it was sent.
The halo was discovered by officers of the Schenectady Police Department near the base of a utility pipe on the grounds of the General Electric offices.
Persia Nelson, the child’s mother, is said to have “dropped” the stunning, hazel-eyed child “into a pipe access area approximately 10 feet deep” where he later died.
Mother “lost her child”
The Mirror reported that the Halo was placed “in a hole in the ground” that was filled with mud and water on a night with temperatures falling below freezing and high winds whipping through the city, north of Albany.
Halo was taken to Ellis Hospital and given life-saving treatment. But at 1:24 p.m., the child was pronounced dead and an autopsy determined the cause of death was hypothermia and exposure.
“I’m here to inform you of the death of an 11-month-old child. “This is not good at all,” Lt. Ryan Macherone remarked, trying not to cry as he spoke to reporters about the horrific death of the young child.” It is with regret that I announce today that she passed away this afternoon.”
He continued, “It’s probably the worst thing that will ever happen (in his career),” alluding to the devastating revelation that had to be made. Probably.
Nelson was at the GE campus, according to News Channel 13, “and told security she claimed she didn’t know how she got there and that she lost her baby.”
After a preliminary investigation that included reviewing local surveillance footage, the 24-year-old mother was charged with second-degree murder.
Nelson is being held in custody after entering a not-guilty plea. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, March 14.
The woman, who was originally from nearby Columbia County, had only been in Schenectady for a few months, according to reports, and had previously lived in a shelter in Albany County. Prince, her other child, is four years old and she does not have custody of him.

On March 7, Nelson posted a collage of pictures with baby Halo, another young child, and a man who, based on earlier shots of her, looks like Schenectady native Dante Gregory.
The mother has since made a number of posts, many of which describe her mental decline.
A few hours ago, she posted another message that said: “No, I’m really crazy, don’t play with it.”
“Enough to murder YOUR young girl, an innocent little girl. I would have loved her, it’s really sad.
How could you hurt her with those wide, beautiful eyes she had?” wrote one netizen, who uses social media as a place to vent her outrage over the child’s death, along with many others.
“Why didn’t you just let her father marry her if you were going to rob her of her precious innocent life?” said the commentator. I will never be able to understand it.”
“You put yourself before your child. You don’t deserve the label ‘mother’ that you failed to achieve,” said another person.
Meanwhile, the brother of Amar Branton, who shares son Prince with Nelson and is the father of little Halo, has set up a GoFundMe page.
Laston Gregory, the artist, gave an explanation. I’m asking for donations to help this young, dedicated father manage his finances and cover funeral expenses so he can spend much-needed time with his son Prince while they mourn the loss of his beloved daughter Halo.”
The campaign continued, raising nearly $6,000 of its $15,000 goal as of March 11: “Amar is an incredible and dedicated parent who goes to great lengths to ensure his children are successful.
Peace Be With You You are an angel now, Halo. You will always be loved and held close to our hearts.
We admire you and see you again.”
