When OP was asked to pay for Steve’s dinner at the restaurant, an argument broke out due to OP’s blatant refusal and subsequent argument with Jack.
Jack directed OP to pay for Steve’s lunch as well when she was ready to pay the tab. She wanted to look like she didn’t know why she should pay, so she asked Jack at that point. “Apparently Jack [didn’t] want to say ‘because he had cancer and is fighting’ out loud and in front of Steve, so he asked me to come outside so we could talk,” OP said.
